Know More about Sunburns and Skin Cancer

With over one million people diagnosed with Skin Cancer, it is certain that it is one of the most shared types of cancer. Skin cancer is nothing but that soars from the skin due to the growth of atypical cells which further spread to other parts of the body. There are three types of Skin Cancers –Basal-Cell, Squamous –Cell and Melanoma. Out of these three mentioned, Basal Cell and Squamous is known as Non Melanoma Skin Cancer which is majorly associated and caused due to the Ultraviolet exposure from the sun.

More of the pigment that is generated by darker skin is called melanin that does aid shield skin but only to a certain extent. People of color can still get sunburned and can also be at the risk of being affected by skin cancer.

Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer leading to increased death tolls. More and more people over the past three decades have become the prey of Skin Cancer than all the other cancers if combined. After Melanoma, the second most common form of skin cancer is Squamous Cell Carcinoma. If you use a tanning bed, you are likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. Studies have revealed that one person dies of melanoma every hour, that is, every 54 minutes.

Men are more prone and diagnosed with skin cancer as compared to women. The chances of men being affected by Skin Cancer is twice than women. It is more common in men over the age of 50 years more than being affected by prostate cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer.

Non-Melanoma skin cancer is caused by over-exposure to the sun sources. Hence it is significant to guard your skin from the sun and cut your direct contact of the sun through the windows. The mortality rate of melanoma skin cancer is much higher although its percentage is less. The peril issue for melanoma upsurges if you have more than five sunburns. If you have had a penetrating sunburn childhood experience or as a teenager, the risk of emerging it later is greater.

The consistent day-to-day practice of an SPF 15 or higher sunscreen shrinks the hazard of mounting squamous cell carcinoma and the jeopardy of evolving melanoma. However, also a dearth of sun exposure can result in the deficiency of vitamin as skin in existence of sunlight creates vitamin D. Hence with the help of a healthy diet one must overcome the deficiency of Vitamin D and should increase the intake of it on regular basis. However, sunscreen is not the only solution to prevent from skin cancer. Simple reason being the sun directs two types of damaging rays our way: Ultra Violet A (UVA) and Ultra Violet B (UVB). Both cause skin cancer, but many sunscreens shield only against UVB.

Every year over 2 million skin cancers being detected many of those could be avoided by taking essential curbs by simply shielding skin from extreme sun exposure and preventing self from indoor tanning.
