How to Live a Healthy Life!

The men and women of the old had a golden practice and that I must say saved them a lot of nails! It was simple – They literally made their body work for any and everything! It’s more than the air they breathed! It was everything to do with their diet and the way they worked themselves unknowingly, be it climbing stairs or walking miles they were doing something right to keep this machine we call –‘the body’ well oiled and working till it hit the age of monks!

Physically being active goes a long way in getting your immunity armored up. So here are a few ways to suit up or build our core self!

The body for a reason requires a healthy amount of snooze time to repair its cells and relax its mechanisms in order to function well. Sleep repairs your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.

‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’

Nutrition is an important aspect that wards of the ills at bay! Consuming the right amount of the right kind of food is of paramount importance in today’s time and age. Hence we do have some of the superfoods that we should include in our diet.
Broccoli- Known for its rich antioxidant content it contributes greatly to helping our immunity. It has many plant compounds (Sulforaphane, Indole-3-carbinol, Carotenoids, Kaempferol, and Quercetin) that protect us from various types of cancers.
Turmeric- The good old Haldi has a lot to offer apart from its bright yellow color! This traditional spice powder exhibits some serious healing acumen. It contains enzymes that help decrease inflammation
Olive Oil- a well-known fact about Olive Oil is that it is rich in antioxidants, containing high levels of monounsaturated fats. It helps reduce inflammation and is said to be effective in decreasing the risk of breast cancer!
Dark green leafy vegetables- Don’t shy away from your greens they hold the key to a good healthy self! Vegetables such as spinach, kale are great immunity boosters as they contain high levels of vitamin C, K and much of antioxidants that builds your immune system.
Garlic- This small pod of wonder carries a lot of power to help you ward of the evil of cancer. It contains antioxidants that support the body’s protective mechanisms against oxidative damage. High doses of garlic supplements have been shown to increase the antioxidant enzymes in humans, as well as significantly reduce oxidative and have also shown to protect one against organ damage from heavy metal toxicity.
Nuts/Seeds- For once going Nuts is recommended. Walnut for e.g. contains Ellagic acid a cancer-fighting antioxidant. Pumpkin Seeds are great for your immune system with lots of antioxidants. Flax seeds are definitely priority. It is the best source lignans, super anti-oxidants that help fight cancer. The anti-estrogenic effects of lignans (i.e. their ability to block the effects of estrogen in some tissues) could potentially help reduce the risk of hormone-associated cancers (breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate).
Green Tea- It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body. It contains high levels of catechins which are powerful antioxidants that help fight and prevent cell damage decreasing the risk of colon, prostate, lung, esophageal, and other cancers.

‘breathe in …breathe out!’

Be it simple yoga exercises or hardcore cardio workouts the body needs its fair share of exercise. Try adding a simple walk in your daily routine; it’s a good way to start this healthy habit!


Increasing work load or pressure to perform takes a toll not only on one’s performance but also on one’s health! One cannot deny the contribution stress adds to making a person vulnerable to diseases. Stressful events can alter the levels of hormones in the body and affect the immune system.

Like the proverb goes, ‘prevention is better than cure’ and hence the sooner we implement these small changes in our daily lives we’ll be better equipped to dodge the curveballs of life.
